Communications Coordinator
Organization Overview:
The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is an economic development agency of the federal government and 13 state governments focusing on 420 counties across the Appalachian Region. ARC’s mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia to help the Region achieve socioeconomic parity with the nation. ARC’s Business and Workforce Investment team works to connect as many people as possible with ARC's grant opportunities, critical research and inspiring success stories.
Position Summary:
ARC seeks a highly organized and collaborative team player to join the communications group as a Communications Coordinator to support both digital communications and event planning efforts for the Commission. This position will coordinate functions for the organization’s events (e.g., fall conference, webinars, program convenings) and digital communications functions to amplify ARC’s mission, grantees and research. This position will collaborate with ARC staff, federal office, states, grantees, partners, and others to source relevant materials. The position is managed by the Director, Communications.
Required Qualifications:
- Exceptional writing skills with an understanding of how to adapt content for multiple communication vehicles and various audiences.
- Solid experience coordinating event logistics, including event marketing, agenda development, registration platform management, and more.
- Superior time management and organizational skills to develop, communicate and execute upon project timeline/plan for each assigned event.
- Demonstrated experience with web content management and social media platforms.
- Available to travel (up to 25%)
- Core competencies: accountability, adaptability, collaboration, communication, and critical analysis.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment bringing an energetic and innovative approach to the work.
- Successful completion (prior to hire) & maintenance of background security review; U.S. citizenship required.
- Minimum to no travel. If travel is needed, must maintain and possess a valid driver's license.

This is not a federal position, however, if a federal employee is selected for this position and transfers without a break in service of more than three calendar days, he or she may be able to continue his or her retirement and life/health insurance benefits. ARC generally follows the General Schedule Salary Table of the Federal government. ARC’s grades denoted by “NF” are equivalent to the GS chart. This position is an NF-10 (DC locality). This is a hybrid position located in Washington, DC and requires three “in-person” days in the office.
